01. Should I use a hair and makeup team for my session?
Answer: YES! Having your hair and makeup done for your session can be a confidence booster! Having a team of experts work together to bring out the best version of you is always a plus. They can really help create the vision you’re going for in your session. If you’re interested in a hair and makeup team, please contact them separately. You will be responsible for scheduling hair and makeup times with your schedule. Come prepared! Make sure you allow enough time to enjoy that experience prior to the photos. If you want to arrive in your first outfit, we will get right to work (after a big hug and a little small talk!) Small details like having manicured nails & the right colored socks help ease stress, so consider setting out your outfits the night before and making sure you have every accessory you want photographed ready!
02. What should I wear? / How many outfits should I bring?
Answer: Outfits are so important, but what is more important is that you be YOURSELF. As fun as new trends are, keep in mind to stay true to yourself! Bring outfits that compliment your style and who you are. Here are some ideas if you are struggling:
GIRLS: graphic t-shirt (Seniors; your future college logo), boyfriend style jeans, barefoot, layers, maxi dresses, and flowy skirts.
BOYS: graphic t-shirt (Seniors; your future college logo), jeans, simple patterned button up, or a sports jacket if you’re into a more formal look.
My only big no-NO’s are neon colors, bright whites, tight body con dresses, and exposed bralettes.
As far as how many outfits to bring I recommend styling 3-4 outfits but bring 2 backups, as well as lots of accessories and shoes.
03. Should I bring someone to my session?
Answer: YES! As long as you are comfortable posing around them and can be your full self! Plus, whoever you bring can be a cute prop, for example your mom, dad, boyfriend, best friend, etc. But remember what the session you booked for is and keep that in mind when brining someone else along. It’s more than okay to feel nervous! Please know that I do not expect you to be models. My job is to direct you in a way that helps you relax, feel natural, and be your true comfortable selves in front of my lens. You do not need to practice poses, study Pinterest pins or let the nerves take over. By the end of the session you will feel like Tyra Banks and wonder when your big break in modeling will come! Don’t worry if you are feeling nervous, I’ll be sure the end result is something you will love!
04. Where are we going to take my pictures?
Answer:This is a very important question because the location can really determine the theme of the session. Picking a location is just like picking your outfits; it needs to represent you. Don’t like the sand or getting dirty? Then the beach probably isn’t for you! Your location should reflect you in every way. I have multiple location routes I love to use, and after scheduling a date for your session we will discuss your vision and I will help make it a reality. If you aren’t an outdoorsy person, I know of studios that can be rented out for an additional fee. If you already have a location in mind, feel free to share it with me so that we can uniquely capture your session! Sessions scheduled downtown are an additional $30. I love to travel all over, if you’re inquiring about a session outside of the Houston area, we can discuss additional fees during booking.
If you have another location that is near and dear to your story, please don’t hesitate to tell me about it. I am true believer in telling your story in a way that is meaningful to you but also remember that the session is about you as a couple and not where you are. There are beautiful places all around us, so if you’d rather me choose the location, I am happy to do so!
05. How long does it take to get my photos?
Answer: With Allison Ruth Photography’s amazing growth over this past year, I am very booked as well as being a full time college student. I try my ABSOLUTE best to send out galleries 2 weeks after the session. Your contract will have a more exact time length as to how long you'll wait to receive your final gallery all depending on busy season.
06. What props should I bring?
Answer: Props can sometimes make all the difference in setting your session apart from the rest! Confetti, glitter, and even your four legged friends! But sometimes less can be more. Using our location and the nature around us can be the perfect ‘prop!’ Simple stools or balloons are great as well.If you’re wondering about how you can make your experience personal and memorable, feel free to bring along any props that are special to you. I want your session to scream YOU, so if that means bringing your four legged friend along or props that tell your story, please do! We can incorporate them into your photos in a fun way! Maybe it’s a hobby you love, maybe it’s a food you love or a bottle of wine that is special. Whatever you want in your photos, I’ll do my best to make it happen!
07. What type of camera do you use?
Answer: I started my business with a Canon Rebel kit that I bought as a Black Friday deal. As I grew in my knowledge of photography and in my skill set, I upgraded to a Canon 60D. Now, I use a Canon 5D Mark IV; a major change from my basic level Rebel that started Allison Ruth Photography!
08. What is your favorite lens?
Answer: My favorite lens is my 35mm! It is very compatible with my camera and I love the way that I can frame people with it.
09. What do you edit photos with?
Answer: I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all of my photos.
10. What time will our session be?
Answer: We will start on time! Being a lover of natural light, the best time to shoot in natural lighting is in the evening. My timing for your session isn’t a coincidence, it is scheduled so that we have the best lighting for your photos. Please allow enough time when you find yourself planning and include time for travel or traffic. If you have an evening session we will shoot until the sun sets, so if we begin a bit late, we won’t stay late! This just ensures that we are in the right place or the right light and will give you the best results!
11. How much are sessions?
Answer: Depending on what session you are inquiring about, the prices vary. Please check out my pricing page. You’re also welcome to send me an email or a message!
12. What happens if it rains on my session day?
Answer: If the weather is not ideal, it is up to the photographer’s discretion to postpone or reschedule the session.
